ANZAC Day 25 April 2017

Anzac Day 2017 Dawn Service and Commemorative Service held at the Cenotaph, Burleigh Heads, hosted by the Burleigh Heads RSL Sub Branch was a enormous success. Mr. Craig McKenzie, President, Burleigh Heads RSL Sub Branch, gave the address at both functions which contributed to the success of both the services. The Dawn Service was a solemn service and saw Michael Hart MP State Member for Burleigh in attendance as well as approximately 4000 members of the public (many children in attendance) present to witness the service. The Commemorative Service held at 9.30 am and commencing with a Parade of Jeeps and Veterans, current serving members; local school children local scouts and associated organisations marching down James Street to the Cenotaph. Jim Casey was the Parade Marshall on the day and the event was a orderly presentation. Dignitaries present were Ms. Karen Andrews, Federal Member for McPherson; Michael Hart, State Member for Burleigh, Ms. Pauline Young, Division 12 Councillor for GCCC. A number of wreaths (too many to list) were laid with respect for the fallen. ACU 133 were in attendance to perform the Catafalt Party at both services. The GCCC were responsible for the preparations of the Cenotaph; erection of tents and shade cover as well as the maintenance of the park area which was very well presented.
